Our Team

A Network of Support

The Durham Mentorship Program is supported by a team of 15 individuals. Each member of our team brings a diverse experience with academia and research, such as medicine, biology (microbiology, biomedical, neuroscience/biology), physics, engineering, public health, among other STEM and Humanitites fields. The team is divided primarily into administrative, instructive, and peer-supportive roles that collaborate to support the needs of our current and prospective students, mentors, and the program at large. Many members of the Mentorship team are alums of NCSSM and matriculated through the NCSSM Mentorship Program.

Teaching Assistants

Teaching assistants, referred to as Research Coaches (RCs), are the first line of support and instruction for the Mentorship students as they guide their students in their intellectual/personal/professional skill development, self-awareness, and effective communication of research and growth. RCs support both the students and instructors and are heavily involved in their students' research through subgroup discussions, individual meetings, feedback on assignments, and guiding students through developing their research project and building professional relationships. RCs offer customized support regarding the students' specific field and allow each student to have a unique experience that's reflective of the diversity of student interests.
