Mentorship “consists of a reciprocal, dynamic relationship between mentor (or mentoring team) and mentee that promotes the satisfaction and development of both” (Richard McGee, 2016).

Mentor Enrollment Form to offer an opportunity for a student to engage in research in 2022-2023

NCSSM is seeking mentors to:

  • to engage NCSSM students as thinkers, makers, doers in an ongoing or independent research project with student deliverables of written proposal and oral and/or poster presentation to the NCSSM community

  • offer an experience that requires the application of knowledge and skills to address challenges in the world beyond the classroom

  • from the Triangle for in person opportunities AND also from beyond the Triangle in virtual format (virtual format is tentative for 2022-2023)

  • in any field of interest from STEM to humanities in a wide range of work environments (including universities, companies, nonprofits)

Timeline and Format for 2022-2023 programs

SUMMER 2022

June 14 - July 21

(with a break from July 4-8)Students work 30-40 hours per week

Format options

IN PERSON AT YOUR SITE (PREFERRED):

Weekdays 8:30am to 4:00pm


(Virtual option may not be available) VIRTUAL: Weekdays 8:30-4:00pm (flexible) Expectation: Mentors offer one meeting + one check-in per week

ACADEMIC YEAR 2022-2023

Aug. 25 - March 30

(with a Dec./Jan. break) Students work 6 hours per week

Tuesday/Thursdays (1:00-4:00PM)

Expectation: Mentors offer one meeting per week

A limited number of students are participating in both the Summer and the Academic Year Programs
